Lasik Eye Surgery California : What Is Custom Lasik?
Custom lasik is Custom Wavefront Guided LASIK in short. It should not be confused with Wavefront Optimized Laser Eye surgery.
Custom LASIK surgery utilises 3D measurements of how your eye processes image to guide the laser in the reshaping of your cornea. As it uses Wavefront technology, very precise vision correction can thus be achieved that would have been impossible with traditional LAISK surgery.
To carry out custom LASIK, the lasik eye surgeon will start by using the wavefront device to send a safe amount of light into your eye. This light is then reflected back off the retina, through, the pupil, and into the device, where the reflected wave of light is received.
All of these visual irregularities are then captured on a 3D map, often referred to as a wavefront map. The information is then transferred electronically to the wavefront guided systems, and matched to the eye’s position using a computer, thus enabling the LASIK eye surgeon to customize the LASIK procedure based on your unique visual requirements.
You may be considered a candidate for Custom LASIK if you have mild to moderately high degress of vison defects such as myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism.
